New Delhi: Indian badminton players, led by Unnati Hooda and Ayush Shetty, made a stellar start in the individual events at the World Junior Championships in Spokane, USA. Odisha Open (2022) champion Unnati registered an impressive 21-7, 21-11 win over Tahiti’s Heirautia Curet in the opening round of the girls’ singles match. Ayush has also achieved a brilliant win against Italy’s Simone Piccinin by 21-6, 21-13 in the first round of boys’ singles.

Tushar Suvir, Devika Sihag and Lokesh Shetty Kalagotla were the other three Indians who also entered the singles round of last 64 with the win. In the doubles matches, the mixed pair of Satwik and Vaishnavi defeated Atrem Hakobyan and Ani Sahakyan of Armenia 21-4 21-7 in a one-sided match, while Samarveer and Radhika defeated China’s Chen Yong Rui and Jiang Pei Xi 21-16 in a tough match. Won by 17-21, 21-14. In the boys’ doubles category, the pair of Divyaam Arora and Mayank Rana also started their campaign with a win.
