Earlier, Sumit had created history by defeating Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in the first round. Sumit had defeated 31st seed Alexander Bullik in the tournament. Sumit Nagal won that match 6-4, 6-2, 7-6. This is the first time that an Indian male tennis player has defeated a seeded player in a singles Grand Slam.
