Ayushmann opens up on professional highs, personal shortcomings in 2023

Mumbai Professionally, this year was great for Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana. But he says 2023 has been a ‘mix of emotions’ for him due to personal loss.

Ayushmann said, “Professionally, 2023 was very special and it gave me a lot of love and respect. It was truly humbling to be honored again by the prestigious Time Magazine for my cinematic choices. I proudly represented India and Indian cinema on the world stage in an event that was watched by the entire world. This is a huge personal milestone for me.”

Adding, “As an Indian, I am very happy that our culture and our cinema is making its presence felt strongly and is being celebrated in every corner of the world. To be recognized by TIME twice in three years is an incredible feeling for me. This is the stuff dreams are made of.”

“I am happy that they believe that my work is contributing to social change, nation building,” he said.

2023 was perfect for Ayushmann as he again delivered ‘Dream Girl 2’.

He said, “There is nothing more delicious than box office success and I am glad that Dream Girl 2 gave me a theatrical hit which I will always remember. As actors, we live and die every Friday and I’m glad I could celebrate the Friday release of Dream Girl 2.

In 2023, UNICEF recognized her as a youth icon who can bring positive change to India.

He says, “I have always tried to contribute and use my voice especially to support children’s rights. It was amazing to be appointed as a UNICEF National Ambassador this year and to grow within an organization that is helping and transforming the lives of millions of people around the world.”

Despite all the success Ayushmann got this year, he also suffered a big personal loss. He lost his father, a void he feels he can never fill.

“Honestly, 2023 has given me a mixed bag of emotions,” he said. Personally, I have suffered a great loss. I lost my father, we all lost our reason to smile. We had to hold each other to drown in that sinking, empty feeling and overcome the unbearable grief.
