Lahore: Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam was re-appointed captain of the white-ball format on Sunday, two months before the T20 World Cup. This decision was taken after the unanimous recommendation of the selection committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The PCB said in a media release,
“Following the unanimous recommendation of the PCB selection committee, Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as the white-ball format (ODI and T20 International) captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. Babar had a disappointing ODI World Cup in India in November last year. After the performance, he left the captaincy for Pakistan in all three formats.
Babar left the role after then PCB chief Zaka Ashraf said he no longer wanted to be captain in the limited overs format and only wanted to lead the Test team. Babar will replace fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as T20 captain, who led Pakistan in the 1-4 series defeat against New Zealand in January. The T20 World Cup will start from June 1 in America and West Indies.
