Today the whole world is a fan of Bharti Singh’s comedy. The comedian is enjoying life with her son these days. But there was a time when she used to be very poor and did not have money even for a single meal. Talking in a podcast by a digital media, Bharti Singh talked about how she and her family were in poverty. He also told how his sudden meeting with Kapil Sharma and Sudesh Lehri changed his whole life.
cry on poverty
Bharti Singh said, there were comedians before me too, but people did not allow them to come forward. People used to silence him saying, ‘Where is your scarf? go inside’. If we had to hide ourselves inside, then why did you give birth to us? These things used to happen a lot earlier, but now the scenario has changed. I was two years old when my father passed away. My brothers and sisters quit their jobs. He used to work in a factory, he used to carry heavy blankets, blankets that we could never use. They stitched them all night long. Sometimes my mother used to stitch dupattas. I still hate the smell of those blankets and the sound of the machine. I have seen enough poverty with my family and I don’t want to see any more of it.
The stale food of others used to be fresh for us.
Bharti Singh said, I cannot tell how much poverty I have seen. If I used to see people throwing half-eaten apples, I would think that person would be cursed for wasting food. I would even think of picking it up and slicing it in such a way that I can eat it. I used to get sad during festivals. We will do Lakshmi Puja after my mother brings a box of sweets from work. I would go and stand next to other children who were bursting crackers, so that others would think that I burst crackers. When my mother used to work in people’s homes, I used to sit near the door. She used to clean the toilets. While leaving, he would give them the leftover food. Their stale food would become our fresh food and that would become our day. Today I tell my mother, I love my mother more than I love my 10-month-old son.
