New Delhi: ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 15’ host and megastar Amitabh Bachchan revealed that his father and great poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan had translated ‘Bhagavad Gita’ in simple language. In the 16th episode of the quiz-based reality show, the contestants from Pathankot, Punjab Dr. Apoorva Malhotra sat on the hot seat.
For the Rs 3,000 question, he was asked, ‘Which of these texts is in the form of a dialogue between a god and a warrior? The options given were Vishnu Purana, Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and Rigveda. ‘The contestants gave the correct answer which was ‘Bhagavad Gita’. Big B said, ‘Let me tell you that my Babuji Harivansh Rai Bachchan translated the Bhagavad Gita Was. He translated it in simple language like Tulsidas’s Ramayana. So, in the language in which Tulsidas wrote the Ramayana, in the same language my father translated the Bhagavad Gita.’
‘Bhagavad Gita is in Sanskrit, it is difficult to read, therefore, he thought that it should be translated into simple language. It is called ‘Jan Geeta’. Do read it if you get a chance.’ Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a poet and writer of the Nai Kavita literary movement. He was also the poet of ‘Hindi Kavi Sammelan’.
