New Delhi : Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not be able to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting next month due to a left ankle injury as he will have to undergo an operation in Britain. Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) sources gave this information. The 33-year-old fast bowler is unable to play in the current Test series against England due to injury. He played his last match for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November last year.
BCCI sources said on condition of anonymity, ‘Shami was in London in the last week of January for a special injection on his ankle and he was told that he can start light running after three weeks.’ He said that there was no benefit from the injection and now he has no option left but to get the operation done. He will soon go to Britain to get the operation done. There is no question of him playing in IPL. Shami had performed brilliantly in the World Cup despite the pain and took 24 wickets. He was also recently honored with the Arjun Award.
