Dubai (Uttam Hindu News): Following the dismissal of the Sports Minister along with assurances given by the government and several other initiatives, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board on Sunday lifted the suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with immediate effect. The ICC said the SLC was suspended in November due to serious breaches of its obligations as an ICC member, particularly the need to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that the administration of cricket in Sri Lanka, There is no government interference in regulation and/or administration.
The board has been monitoring the situation since the suspension and is now satisfied that SLC is no longer in breach of its membership obligations, the ICC said in a statement on Sunday. Before suspending Sri Lanka Cricket, the ICC Board determined that Sri Lanka Cricket was in serious breach of its obligations as a member, in particular, the need to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that There is no government interference in governance, regulation.
The Sri Lankan Parliament unanimously passed a resolution demanding the dismissal of the SLC Board. This proposal was supported in Parliament by both the ruling party and the opposition. Parliament’s motion came two days after the appeal court reinstated the SLC management headed by Shammi Silva, who was sacked by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. Amidst the ongoing dispute in the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe dismissed Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, after which the matter was resolved.
