Mumbai: After three consecutive defeats in this season of IPL, Mumbai Indians got a boost on Friday when the explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav joined the team after getting fit after surgery. Mumbai has to play against Delhi Capitals on Sunday at home. The middle-order batsman batted for about an hour on Friday and played his trademark shots all around the field.
Head coach Mark Boucher and batting coach Kieron Pollard also spoke to him during practice. The 33-year-old Mumbai batsman was declared fit to play by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after undergoing surgery to treat sports hernia in Munich, Germany.
Suryakumar, one of the world’s most prominent T20 batsmen, who is famous for his 360-degree short-making, last played competitive cricket during the T20I leg of India’s tour of South Africa in December 2023. He injured his ankle while fielding in the third T20I in Johannesburg, where he scored 100 from 56 balls, his fourth century in the format. Under his captaincy, India won the series in South Africa.
