The official further said that a hookah parlor in Bora Bazaar was raided by the Social Services Branch of Mumbai Police at 10:30 pm on Tuesday, the operation continued till 5 am on Wednesday.
“Police found stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui and others smoking hookah. We also have a video of their act. We detained them, but later allowed them to leave,” a senior officer told PTI. It was granted because the sections imposed against him were bailable.”
Police had received information
He said that the police had received information that some customers were smoking tobacco based hookah in the parlor under the guise of smoking herbal hookah, following which the raid was conducted. Faruqui and his co-accused have been booked under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) as well as Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 283 (danger or obstruction to public way or line of navigation), 336 (act endangering life) A case has been registered under. Those detained by Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg police were given notices and allowed to leave.
