Adipurush was based on the epic Ramayana and was heavily criticized for being a loose adaptation of a work considered sacred by Hindus. The film was also criticized and there were many demands to ban or boycott it. Several cases were filed in various courts against the producers, director Om Raut and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. As a result, director Om Raut and other films disappeared from the public eye for several weeks after their release. The film starred Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles.
