Brain stroke is the second biggest cause of death in India after heart attack. Stroke cases are increasing in the country. In our country, 145 out of 1 lakh people are suffering from brain stroke. This is a very big number. If we talk about the world, then after the age of 60, the highest number of deaths after heart attack are due to brain stroke. Therefore people should be aware about it.

Our brain is like this, if there is no supply of blood, cells start dying.

Dr. Rajkumar, Director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) said these things in an exclusive conversation with Prabhat Khabar (prabhatkhabar.com). Dr. Rajkumar gave detailed information about brain stroke. Also told about measures to avoid this. Dr. Rajkumar said that brain is such an organ where if there is no supply of oxygen even for two minutes, then its cells start dying. Like other parts of the body, brain cells do not regenerate.

When blood supply to the brain stops, cells start dying: Dr. Rajkumar

He said that if there is an injury or wound in any other part of the body, it heals on its own in a few days. But, this does not happen with the brain. The director of RIMS Ranchi said that there is a network of arteries in the brain, which supplies blood to every cell. If any artery gets blocked, the blood supply to it stops. In such a situation, swelling occurs and cells start dying. Swelling increases around it and the same happens further. In such a situation, if bleeding occurs from an artery or from somewhere else, it is called brain stroke.

‘Stroke in Young’ was discussed for the first time in the 90s

Dr Rajkumar told that the discussion about ‘Stroke in Young’ started for the first time in the 90s. Today even common people have started knowing about it. He said that earlier people of 50-60 years of age used to suffer brain stroke. Now cases of brain stroke have started appearing in young people also. There are many reasons for this. The biggest reason for this is that people seem happy, but they are not.

These are responsible for the increasing causes of brain stroke

In response to a question, the Director of RIMS said that in this era of modernization, people seem happy, but our country is far behind in the Happy Index. The biggest reason for this is stress. People are not ready to cause pain to the body. Don’t want to get out of the car. Eating fried foods, consuming alcohol and cigarettes. All these things are the reasons for increasing incidence of brain stroke. He said that in the coming days, screening of youth should also be made mandatory. It is possible that this may be considered and a time may come when screening of youth also becomes mandatory.
