New Delhi,, India’s ‘lunar blockbuster’ Chandrayaan-3 created history by landing on the South Pole of the Moon. India is the only country in the world to do so. ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 mission cost Rs 615 crore. If it is converted into US dollars, it is 75 million dollars. It is cheaper than the box office debacle ‘Adipurush’ (Budget: Rs 700 crore).
The Chandrayaan-3 mission is also cheaper than the two Hollywood films currently ruling the worldwide box office — Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” ($145 million) and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” ($100 million).
Talking about space travel inspired film, Ridley Scott’s Matt Damon-starrer ‘The Martian’ (2015) was made for $106 million.
Chandrayaan-3 is cheaper than the average listed price of any Boeing aircraft. For which Air India has recently placed an order. This includes the 737 Max ($128.25 million each), the 787-9 ($292.50 million) and the 777.9 ($442.20 million).
Air-India has ordered 220 of these aircraft. Chandrayaan-3 is cheaper even if we look at the prices of the 250 Airbus aircraft for which the deal has been fixed.
Each Airbus 320 Neo costs $110.60 million. Chandrayaan-3 cost less than the Airbus 321 Neo ($129.50 million) and less than a quarter of the cost of the A350-1000 ($366.50 million) and A350-900 ($317.40 million).
If we talk about ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 landing on the South Pole, it is much less than Russia’s failed mission Luna 25 (estimated at $ 200 million or more than Rs 1,600 crore). At the same time, it is less than China’s first Chang’e probe (1.4 billion yuan or $ 219 million).
