‘Chhori’ Nushrat Bharucha said- audience should reject useless films so that makers can make good content

Nowadays remake films are being made in Bollywood one after the other. What do you think is the reason behind making so many remake films in the Hindi film industry?

Look, remakes are not being made from today. We saw the remake of Don, the remake of Agneepath by Hrithik Roshan. So it is not that it did not happen earlier. But don’t know yet whether the people of the industry feel that the formula for making a remake will work. They do not know why they think that if they make a remake of a South film, then the audience will be able to make a connection with it. If you look technically, the Hindi audience is also more in the South. He has seen Hindi films in Hindi. So I think either you pick up a very old film and make a remake, like Chhatrapati Hai, which came 18 years ago. So people haven’t seen him for so long. When such a long gap comes, then the audience sees it as new content. On the other hand, if you make a remake of a recently released South film, then people have seen that film, in such a situation, that film does not get the same response. (Laughs) But nowadays, what will work, what will not work, I don’t know.

After Corona, the attitude of the audience has changed a lot. He has seen all the content of the country and abroad. What do you think this changed audience wants to see?

I think in the lockdown, the audience has watched content from all over the world sitting at home, whether it is a web series or a film. So now they have started liking the content, the story has started taking importance for them. They read the sub-titles of any foreign content and see the complete content. I have seen many Korean shows. When I board a flight, my Korean drama episodes are ready. Even though I can’t remember their faces because I’m watching the subtitles below. I rarely see visuals. I think the audience has become a learner, they have become very intelligent and they have got a lot of options. Earlier, when there were five heroes, people used to follow them, but when there will be 25 heroes, the value of five will not remain that much. This is what is going on right now. Now there is a lot of variety in the content. People don’t want the content that you were selling films earlier. They say that this is not needed, they have seen it. They say that we need something new.

In the past few films have been able to survive at the box office, a large number of movies have proved to be failures. How do you see this idea of ​​rejecting viewer content?

I am happy with the change because I feel that films which are not good should be rejected by the audience. On the other hand, the films which are good, even if they are of new stars, should be seen. I am also a newcomer. Nobody knew us at the time of Pyaar Ka Punchnama release. But that film was good, so it got the love of the audience. If you do not support good films, then no one will make good films. Then again you will be served the same content even when you are not interested in it. So I am with this change that the film which is not good, reject it.

B Srinivas told us in an interview that doing films in Hindi is a new thing for him and you helped him a lot in understanding Hindi. So how did you help Srinivas with the dialogues in Hindi?

In fact I didn’t even need to help them. At least in the film, no such help was required. He had memorized everything. He knew the script from front to back. So according to the dialogue in Hindi, he did not face any problem at all. But apart from that Srinivas could not understand anything in Hindi. So when we used to keep talking on the sets, he used to think what is happening, what is happening. I helped him in that matter. I used to tell what people are saying, what is the situation, what is going on. The biggest thing is that B Srinivas speaks less in front of the girl. In the film also you will see that he does not say anything in front of the girl, he just keeps on blushing and the girl keeps on talking. I don’t think that she doesn’t know Hindi, but when she speaks, she definitely makes a different sound. He is a star from South India, so his accent is understandable. But that accent from his mouth sounds very cute too. For example, when I speak in Hindi, people say that your Hindi sounds like North India, whereas I was born in Mumbai.

– Did you already know Srinivas? What was your reaction when you came to know that you have to do a film with him?

To be honest, I did not know who, where, what is going on in the South. For some time now, little by little information has started reaching me that who is making the film, what is the film, who is the actor. Earlier only the names of one or two were known, there was no more information than that. When I got the offer for the film, I didn’t know who B Srinivas was. So first of all I had to know that. When I came to know about him, saw him, after that his father came to Mumbai to meet him. He was very determined that he has to cast me in the film. I have said earlier also that when a filmmaker wants you, then I feel more inclined to work there. This is because he has already made up his mind about taking me, he understands your value, he likes you so much. So I like those who support me. After that I also thought that the era of Pan India films is going on, so let’s do it. We shot this film in lockdown. During that time very few films were shot in the industry. So I did this film just on gut feeling.
