Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was forced to include non-vegetarian food in his diet due to his training abroad in the last few years as vegetarian food was not easily available abroad.
Chopra is also fond of drinking tea while she also likes the Haryanvi dish Churma. Chopra said on Tuesday that I realized that I need to eat this (non-vegetarian food) while training abroad.
Chopra said that you get a lot of vegetarian food in India but not outside the country. While training outside the country you have to take most of the supplements.
The 25-year-old Olympic and world champion said, ‘Supplements fulfill (an athlete’s) nutritional needs but natural diet is also very important. So I started eating non-vegetarian food.
Recalling one of his foreign trainings, he said, ‘This was when I was training in Poland. I used to get rice, leafy vegetables etc. You could say it was similar to what buffaloes eat in villages.
Chopra said that he likes to eat simple food and is taking care not to gain weight as he did after the victory in the Tokyo Olympics. He said, ‘I like simple food like veg biryani, dal rice, curd or raita, roti, paneer etc. I eat mostly vegetarian food while living in India.
Chopra said, ‘I like to drink tea but when I train abroad, I do not get tea for five-six months, so I drink tea at home in India and fulfill its quota while in India.’
Chopra said that he likes churma. He said, ‘I can eat some sweets because I have free time now. I don’t eat sweets the whole year (during training). But churma contains desi ghee and hence you can eat it when you are doing proper exercise, not otherwise.
