What is JN.1 sub variant?
The JN.1 sub-variant was first identified in Luxembourg and has since been spreading in many countries. According to reports, it is a descendant of the Pirola variant (BA.2.86), which is a sub-variant of Omicron. There is only one change between Pirola and the new variant and that is in the spike protein. There are many unique mutations in its spike protein, which make it more toxic. It can now bind to our cells more strongly than other omicron subtypes. Experts say additional mutations enable the virus to spread faster and evade immunity. Experts have warned that it is more immune resistant. It was identified as a variant of interest by WHO scientists in November. The JN.1 variant has also been reported in the United States, China and Singapore.
Characteristics of JN.1 new COVID variant
JN.1 represents an estimated 15 percent to 29 percent of cases in the United States. Although infectiousness and transmissibility have increased, symptoms of JN.1 are relatively mild and there have been no reports of hospitalizations. Modi government became active
The Modi government at the Center has asked the states and union territories to maintain constant vigil amid the increase in cases of respiratory disease and the first case of the new JN.1 variant of corona virus in the country. India’s first case of JN.1 variant was reported in Kerala on December 8. Earlier, a traveler from Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu was found infected with the JN.1 variant in Singapore. It is being told that the Union Minister is going to review the preparedness of health facilities and services in view of the recent increase in cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe respiratory illness (SARI), including Covid-19, in some states. Oxygen, hospital beds, ventilators, medicines, diagnostics and other arrangements and monitoring measures can also be discussed.
