The Bombay High Court on Friday rejected the plea of TV actor Sheezaan Khan, in which he had sought quashing of the FIR registered against him. Sheezan was booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of his TV show co-star Tunisha Sharma. On Friday, the bench of Justices Ajay Gadkari and Sharmila Deshmukh rejected his petition. Tunisha Sharma was found dead in the washroom on the sets of a Hindi TV show located on the outskirts of Mumbai in December last year. Sheejan was arrested by Waliv police the day after Tunisha’s death.
According to a report in the Indian Express, Sheezaan’s lawyer Sharad Rai argued in the court that “comings and goings in a relationship are normal aspects of life, and if two people in such a relationship end, it is the mere fact that The other person does that.” Further said that suicide does not justify the offense registered under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC with consequences of arrest and detention.
However, the police opposed her plea and said that as per the CCTV footage, Tunisha looked fine before entering Sheezan’s room and after she came out, she looked ‘quite distressed’. The police even said that they have very strong evidence against Sheezan, which will prove his involvement in abetting the suicide.
Sheezan claimed that he is the victim of “numerous allegations being spread in the media by people who do not wish well for him, and want him to be prosecuted in what is otherwise a simple suicide case.” Sheezaan Khan and Tunisha Sharma both worked together in Sony SAB’s Alibaba: Dastaan-e-Kabul.
