Covid’s sub-variant JN.1 reached Odisha, INSACOG report revealed, now so many cases in the country

A case of Covid sub-variant JN.1 has been reported in Odisha. This has come to light after the Indian SARS COV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) released data related to the number of cases across the country. INSACOG has said that now the total number of this sub-variant in the country has increased to 196. The Health Ministry said on Monday that 636 new cases of corona virus have been reported in India. At the same time, the number of patients undergoing treatment in the hospital is 4,394. After the release of INSACOG data, Odisha became one of those states where the presence of this subform of corona virus has been detected. So far, cases of JN.1 sub-variant of corona virus have been reported in 10 states and union territories of the country.

179 cases were reported in December
INSACOG data showed that of the total Covid cases reported in the country in December 2023, 179 were of JN.1, while the number of such cases in November was 17. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a ‘variant of interest’ amid the rapidly increasing cases of ‘JN.1’ form of corona virus. WHO also said that this does not pose much threat to global public health.
636 cases of corona were reported in the country
In recent weeks, cases of JN.1 have been reported from many countries and its spread has increased rapidly globally. Amidst the increase in the number of Covid cases in the country and the detection of JN.1 sub-variant, the Center has asked the states and union territories to maintain constant surveillance. According to the data released by the Health Ministry on Monday, 636 new cases of corona virus have been reported in India, while the number of patients under treatment is 4,394.
