Tabu, Kriti Sanon and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s women-centric film Crew has released in theaters today. The film is based on the backdrop of Vijay Mallya and Kingfisher Airlines. Saswata Chatterjee named Vijay Walia plays the role of the owner of Kohinoor Airlines, where Geeta Sethi (Tabu), Jasmine (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and Divya (Kriti Sanon) work as cabin crew. This 2 hour 4 minute film has comedy, suspense, heist and a lot of glamour.

Coming from the makers of Veere Di Wedding, the crew is devoid of artificial feminism, nudity and ‘four more shots please’ sentiments. Thankfully, in the name of women empowerment, this film is not like the previous film. This could also be because Rhea Kapoor remained adamant on producing the film instead of directing it. The Crew is an easy and entertaining movie. Kriti may have been a little inferior to Tabu and Kareena, but when you share the screen with so much talent, no one can complain.

Story

The Kareena, Kriti and Tabu starrer Crew runs in two timelines. One, where all three are being interrogated and the other (the previous version), where you learn more about their story as well as the depth of their friendship. Tabu plays the role of the senior most member in this cabin crew, second to Kareena and then Kriti. It is shown in the film that an airline goes bankrupt and its employees are forced to face problems. A short background story of Kriti, Tabu and Kareena is also showcased where the makers try to pave the way for the upcoming heist. The film takes an interesting turn when the three artists discover a lot of gold amidst their misery. Along with this, there is a short but sweet introduction of Diljit Dosanjh, who plays Kriti Sanon’s love interest.

After realizing that the company is actually bankrupt, the promises are false and her PF is undisputed, Tabu aka Geeta inspires the other two to take a risk. After spending a few moments of fun and luxury, their good time is cut short and the trio begin to be interrogated. These women decide the fight among themselves, the fight within and the fight with the system. Keeping everything under the genre of comedy-drama, the makers have been able to pull the right strings in every way.

direction

The crew is directed by Rajesh A Krishnan, known for the lockdown OTT release, Lootcase. Krishnan took full advantage of the opportunity with the film starring Kunal Khemu, although the crew was left behind. To ensure that the film does not appear illogical, Krishnan has highlighted many flaws in it. Another biggest mistake of the filmmaker is to cast Diljit and Kapil Sharma in a comedy film but not using their comic timing. Both are reduced to almost serious roles and are presented ‘just’ as the greenest of flags. Given the circumstances, the director and writer could have easily presented their punchline. However, Krishnan should be appreciated for not doing strange things in the name of women empowerment. He has also kept the film logical in many ways. The makers have also added a lot of glamor so that the story does not get affected.

acting

Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Tabu are in lead roles in this film. Whereas in supporting roles, good acting can only be expected from Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma. Kareena Kapoor looks the best in the crew. She is ambitious, bright, glamorous, funny and unapologetic. Well, Kareena is looking very much like Bebo in this film. At the same time, Tabu has the best lines in the film. He is the most senior of the cabin crew and the actor captures this in his expressions, acting and even walking. In the end, Kriti Sanon may outweigh the other two. However, the actor compensates for this with his on-point emotional expressions. One might also feel that more footage could have been given to Diljit and Kriti’s love story, as their chemistry is very good. Kapil and Diljeet are good in the current circumstances but ultimately they are just supporting the leads.

The supporting cast includes Rajesh Sharma as Mittal, Kulbhushan Kharbanda as Nanu and Saswata Chatterjee as Vijay Walia. The actors have really made full use of their short presence but Mittal is a clear winner among them. Pooja Bhamrah who plays Komal in the film is also good. She hits the right chord.

music

The Crew has some good music and some duds. What is behind the Ghaghra and Choli has been kept well in the film. These songs also add to the story and you will not feel bored. However, the intro and sad song didn’t work for me. Although Raj Ranjodh could have performed better than him. Naina, sung by Diljit, obviously comes with the end credits and adds nothing to the story of this film. Overall, The Crew has good party songs and now you can hear them playing at parties.
