Shahrukh Khan and Prabhas’s films are doing well in theatres. Shahrukh’s ‘Dinky’ with Rajkumar Hirani was scheduled for Christmas weekend since the time of its announcement. But after getting postponed, when the release of ‘Salaar’ was fixed on this weekend, the matter became interesting. This huge clash of Indian cinema set such an atmosphere that it became the biggest cinema event of the year.
Prabhas is counted among the biggest superstars not only of South India but also of India and since ‘Baahubali 2’, he has become a big face of Indian cinema in the overseas market as well. There was huge advance booking for his film ‘Salaar’ and the film also got excellent reviews. But it is very difficult for any Indian star to compete with Shahrukh’s overseas stardom. After the first weekend, Shahrukh’s film ‘Dinky’ has done such wonders, which seemed difficult till its release.
‘Dinky’ overtakes ‘Salar’
‘Dinky’ is still far behind ‘Saalar’ at the worldwide box office. But after the first weekend, the collection of Shahrukh’s film was more than ‘Salaar’ in the overseas market. The interesting thing in this game is that Shahrukh’s film was released directly in foreign countries, without a paid premiere, whereas the overseas collection of ‘Salaar’ also included the earnings of the paid premiere. Still Shahrukh’s ‘Dinky’ went ahead of this.
Box office tracker Nishit Shaw shared information on social media that while ‘Dinky’ collected 10.20 million dollars (about Rs 84 crore) at the overseas box office in 4 days, ‘Salaar’ collected 3 days including weekend and premiere. It collected 9.61 dollars (about Rs 80 crore) from abroad.
Shahrukh’s rule in overseas
Talking about the major overseas markets of Bollywood films, the earnings of ‘Saalar’ ($5.60 million) in USA/Canada were more than that of ‘Dinky’ ($3.59 million), but the earnings in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, UK and Middle East including Middle East. Like in the markets ‘Dinky’ earned more than ‘Salar’.
Shahrukh Khan has been a big star in all these markets and it is amazing that despite the mixed response, his film ‘Dinky’ is earning huge money here, while despite positive reviews and a big star like Prabhas, ‘Salaar’ is earning a lot of money here. Is lagging behind.
These two films may be clashing with each other, but relying on them, Indian cinema is going to get a gross collection of Rs 200 crore in a week from the overseas market. The power of both the stars is continuously taking Indian cinema to new heights in the foreign market.
