Sohil Ramani told Pinkvilla that “Replacing Dayaben’s character is a very difficult task as she is an iconic character, since last 7 years people have been eagerly waiting to see Dayaben in the show. We still want That Disha Vakani should play this role and we are in touch with her.” Sohil said, “He is also in touch with Asit (Modi) sir. As of now, Disha ji is enjoying her personal life with her 2 kids, but this character is also very close to her heart.”

Elaborating further, the project head of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah said, “Over the past year and a half, we auditioned a few actors for the role and there are a few who have come close to Disha Vakani. The choice is still Disha ji, it may be noted that Asit ji has waited for this character since last many years as they share a close bond, otherwise no producer would wait for an iconic character, such a character for. We have auditioned some great actors of Gujarati film industry. We have to see all aspects whether she is compatible with Jethalal, she should fit as Tappu’s mother. We have given around 15-25 auditions , the cast and 2-3 of them were really great.”

Checklist for the role of Dayaben

Ramani shared, “We have shortlisted a few actors and we have announced them in the episode as well. We are waiting for the right time to introduce the character. Will be plentiful, as our women (from Gokuldham) are also missing Dayaben during their meetings. Due to the absence of this character, fewer stories are being made around the ‘Mahila Mandal’. This is a limitation for us as well. Once we get the character back, we will also start making complete stories. Along with the audience, we are also eager to get Dayaben back. We can either get to see Dayaben, this year or next at the beginning of the year.” Sohil Ramani said, “This character is such that we have to be 100 per cent sure. We cannot afford to make a single mistake, because people immediately share their opinion on social media.”

Auditions going on for new Dayaben in place of Disha Vakani

Producer Asit Modi had revealed about Dayaben’s return. He said, auditions are going on to find a new face. He said, “The viewers of the show are patiently waiting to see their favorite Dayaben back on the show. Casting the character is not easy and it would be a challenge for any actress to play the role of Disha. We will need a great artist for this role.”
