Bengaluru: In the final of Duleep Trophy 2023, the South Zone team captured the championship after defeating the star-studded West Zone in a thrilling match. South Zone lifted the trophy for the 12th time in the tournament’s 61-year-old history. Strong defending champions West Zone were set a target of 298 in the final. Big names like Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sarfaraz Khan proved to fail miserably. Captain Priyank Pachanal top-scored with 95 runs, but all hopes were shattered as soon as he was dismissed. Champion South Zone piled on West Zone for 222 runs on the basis of killer bowling by Vasuki Kaushik and Sai Kishore (4-4 wickets), thus winning the title match by 75 runs.star failing miserably

Earlier, in this five-day Test match which started from July 12 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, South Zone scored 213 runs after losing the toss and scored 213 runs while West Zone was bundled out for just 146 runs. After getting a lead of 62 runs, South started playing ahead of the score of 181 runs for seven wickets on the fourth morning, after which the team was reduced to 230 runs in the second innings. In which left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took five wickets. Priyank completed 8000 runs in first class cricket in 205 balls and kept West Zone’s hopes alive, but could not defend the championship title.
