This year, many people from India and abroad are visiting Kolkata to witness Durga Puja, one of the most spectacular festivals in the world.
The autumn festival was added to UNESCO’s list of ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’. This time, to make this festival special in Kolkata, trams will run on the roads.

The West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) has decided to join hands with Asian Paints to start the tram service which will continue till the New Year.
Tram in Kolkata was first started in 1873. Since then, the continuous tram has become a part of the ‘City of Joy’ and its heritage.
The oldest tram network still in operation in India and Asia is the tram system in Kolkata. This is India’s first electric tramway. Currently, it is the only tram network in India that is operational.
Apart from trams, the city is known for its wonderful celebration of Durga Puja. The design of this tram celebrates 150 years of heritage of Kolkata’s tramways and Durga Puja, which is definitely a sight to behold.
