Many theaters in Bhopal, Hyderabad were set on fire. In the theaters of London, people had gone inside with beer bottles and started breaking all the glasses. Actually some people had misunderstood at that time that this film is anti-Muslim, due to which all this ruckus happened. We did not make this film to hurt any religion.

Police deployed outside theaters

Recalling the uproar during the release of Gadar, Anil says, 50 police forces were stationed outside every cinema theatre. The duty of the policemen used to change every 6 hours. There were eight shows daily. The film used to run for 24 hours. When the film was released, about five and a half crore audience had reached the theatre. The film had created a history. Even today the curiosity among the people about the film is the same. I was just coming from some function, so two women came to me and asked Sakina, will it be in the film? Gadar has not become a film but an emotion.
