After the moon of Eid was sighted on Friday, April 21, Eid is being celebrated across the country on Saturday, April 22.

Eid is a festival of brotherhood and harmony. Let us tell you that Eid Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on different days across the world and it is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, which is considered to be the beginning of the month of Shawwal in the lunar Islamic calendar.

To celebrate Eid, people wear new clothes, prepare special dishes, donate, and celebrate with their loved ones.

The festival is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal – the month that follows Ramadan in the Hijri calendar. Additionally, the start of any lunar Hijri month varies according to the sighting of the new moon by religious authorities.

Since Eid ul-Fitr also marks the first day of the month of Shawwal, it is celebrated on different days in different regions. All months under the Islamic calendar are of 29 or 30 days. Muslims also celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, which comes immediately after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr is also a celebration of having a successful month of fasting, prayer and abstaining from all negative actions, thoughts and words and it is a way of paying respect to Allah.

Muslims around the world offer prayers on Eid-ul-Fitr. People wear new clothes to celebrate this day.

On Eid, they give zakat or alms to the poor, distribute sweets and eat a variety of dishes including biryani, haleem, nihari, kebabs and vermicelli.

It is believed that Prophet Muhammad received the first revelation of the Holy Quran during the holy month of Ramadan.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of dawn-to-dusk fasting during Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal.
