After TV, films, actor Shantanu Maheshwari these days is seen in web series Toothpari in OTT platform. Regarding his show, he says that people have not seen such a show. This is the Indian version of the vampire series. The content and treatment of the series is very different, that’s why people are liking it. In conversation with Urmila Kori…
What did you have to learn and unlearn for your character?
I am also from Kolkata, so along with the director, my inputs were also there in imbibing the character. I have seen such a world around. I didn’t have to forget much for my character, I just had to react in the moments that happened. Boy next door is the character, but care had to be taken not to over or under play anything.
Your character in the film is one for whom all his decisions are being made by his family, how much do you relate to the character on this aspect?
My family has always allowed me to take my decisions, but yes my parents had more faith in me. He used to think that I can do very well in dance and acting, but I did not think so. My mother had a lot of faith. She often used to tell me that you will become an actor.
There are senior actors like Revathi, Shashwat in the series, were you nervous while shooting with them?
Totally a friendly atmosphere. He is such a fine actor, during the shooting he was perfect. Used to be comfortable. He never lets you feel that he is such a talented and experienced actor. Whenever I become a senior actor, I would like to treat my junior actors in the same way.
How much have things changed as an actor after doing Gangubai?
I feel more responsible now. Roles are being written keeping me in mind. Once success is achieved, it is difficult to maintain it. That’s why I am very focused about my work. Having said this, I would also like to mention that Toothpari web series was offered to me before Gangubai.
How much credit do you give to television in your career?
Whatever I am today is because of television. My first show was Dil Dosti Dance, where I showcased my acting skills. Gangubai’s offer came only after seeing my TV work. Everyone knows this. So I will always be grateful to TV.
You are also a good dancer, is the focus acting now?
I have been balancing both and will continue to do so. My dream is to bring India on the world map in dance. I would like to do a dancing character. If ever Govinda’s biopic is made, I will be very happy to get this opportunity.
