Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, adept at telling offbeat but unconventional real life stories on the silver screen, is in limelight these days for his Faraaz. This film is based on the terrorist attack in the neighboring country Bangladesh but this film is not a story of terrorism. This film is a story of humanity.
Story of courage and humanity
The story of the film is based on the terrorist attack on July 1, 2016 at the Holy Artisan Cafe in Dhaka, the capital of our neighboring country Bangladesh. In which 22 foreign nationals were killed by seven terrorists. In which an Indian woman was also involved. Many people were held hostage for several hours. Many security force personnel were also martyred. This story is not just the story of this dreadful terrorist incident, but it is the story of courage and humanity of 20 year old Muslim youth Faraz (Jahan Kapoor). Who was present there with his Indian female friend and a Muslim female friend.
The terrorists had given Faraz the option of leaving because of his Muslim religion and being Bangladeshi, but not his two friends, because one of the female friends was an Indian citizen and the other, despite being a Muslim, was wearing western clothes. Instead of saving himself, Faraz chose to be with his friends. To save the lives of innocent people, Faraz stands fearlessly against the terrorists without any weapon. He asks them questions. He tells the real meaning of Islam. Faraj has to pay the price of this courage and humanity by giving his life.
There are many advantages in the script but there are some flaws too.
This film is based on a terrorist incident, but this film is different from the films and series made on this subject. It shows the courage of a common man and not the bravery of security agencies. The story is not shown through Race Against Time. As is usually common in films and series of this genre. Here no timeline keeps running on the screen, it is being told through the dialogue of the characters that how many hours have passed since the incident. The film engages you from the very beginning, because in the tenth minute the film comes to its original story, but what if. How it will happen. This question can be found only in the second half of the film. This two-hour film shakes you in the last 40 minutes.
The mood has definitely been lightened a bit through the character and dialogues of the police commissioner in the film, but keeping in mind the sensitivity of the subject. How young people are misled in the name of religion. This film keeps its point on this too. It brings to the fore two different ideologies of the Muslim community. One who wants to kill people in the name of Islam and one who considers bloodshed in the name of Islam is wrong, but the screenplay has not been able to bring out the clash of these two ideologies in the way the film needed especially A need is felt to put Faraz’s character and ideology a little more effectively. After all the title of the film was Faraz. The back story of the characters is also not given importance in the story.
Aditya Rawal wins in acting
Talking about acting, Shashi Kapoor’s son Jehan Kapoor has made his Bollywood debut through this film. He raises hopes with his effortless performance, but Aditya Rawal has won the game. He looks completely composed in his character. He has made his character very effective with strong acting. Juhi Babbar, Sachin and the rest of the cast have also done justice to their roles.
These aspects are also special
Talking about other aspects of the film, the cinematography of the film brings out the story and its circumstances very well. The background music has also become good. The dialogues of the film are hard hitting. We need our Islam from people like you. This dialogue in itself adds a lot to the story of the film.
see or not see
Everyone must watch this film based on the unique story of humanity.
