Maternity leave for female students above 18 years: In Kerala, Higher Education Minister R Bindu announced that girl students above 18 years of age will get 60 days maternity leave. Higher Education Minister R Bindu said that an order has been issued in this regard. In which it has been said that girl students above 18 years of age can get a maximum of 60 days of maternity leave. The required attendance percentage for female students including monthly menstrual leave will be 73 percent, which was earlier 75 percent.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bindu said that the government is considering giving menstruation leave to all state universities recently announced by the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). CUSAT announced on Saturday (January 14) to give menstruation leave to its girl students.
Menstruation leave was implemented on the basis of the demand of the student union.
Keeping in mind the mental and physical difficulties faced by girl students during menstruation leave, the Kerala government plans to extend it to all universities under the Higher Education Department, said a press note from the office of Higher Education Minister R Bindu. She is making. The release said that menstruation leave was implemented in CUSAT based on the demand of the SFI-led students’ union.
75% compulsory attendance for girl students reduced to 73%
CUSAT also announced relaxation of 2 per cent in addition to shortfall in attendance of female students in each semester on request for Menstruation Leave benefits to female students. Generally, only those students will be allowed to appear in each semester examination, who have 75 percent attendance in total working days. Compulsory attendance will be reduced by giving two percent exemption for shortfall of attendance along with menstruation leave leave. Compulsory attendance for female students will be reduced to 73 percent.
This demand was recently presented to the Vice Chancellor
The university has said that a proposal by the CUSAT Students’ Union and various student organizations was recently formally submitted to the Vice-Chancellor and approved, following which an order was issued.
