Geneva | Gianni Infantino, the president of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), met Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior and told him that there is no place for discrimination in football. Infantino also met with the Brazilian national team and Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues on Thursday to discuss setting up a task force against racism in football, Xinhua reported. Infantino said Brazil international forward Vinicius Junior would play a key role in this.
Vinicius Junior, 22, has been the victim of several racist incidents this season. The latest incident happened in May when he was subjected to racial abuse in a match.
FIFA president said, racism has no place in football!
It is very important not just to talk about racism and discrimination, but also to take action in a decisive and concrete way – zero tolerance,’ Infantino said after the meeting in Barcelona, Spain.
FIFA stands with the Brazilian Football Confederation and all players in this fight. It is important to enforce sports sanctions and I congratulate the CBF for doing so.
