Chennai. Chennaiyin FC on Sunday announced the return of Owen Coyle as head coach for the 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League, signing a multi-year deal. Owen will thus replace Thomas Berdaric at the club at the end of the 2022-2023 season. Scotland’s Owen has won the ‘Premier League Manager of the Month’ award three times. He is very popular in the Indian football world and has led Chennaiyin FC to success last time. Under his guidance, the club reached the finals of the 2019-20 ISL.
Vita Dani, co-owner of Chennaiyin, said in the release, “We are very pleased to have Owen return to the Chennaiyin club. He is not new to India and we all have seen what he can do here. He is the right coach to guide our young team, we are delighted to have him back. Owen (57 years) won the ISL Shield in 2021-22 with Jamshedpur FC by 43 points. Owen has also been a coach in the English Premier League, one of the top football leagues in the world.
