World number one Carlos Alcaraz and 22-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic shared only one half of the draw for the French Open on Thursday and could face each other in the semi-finals. Had he been in the bottom half, Alcaraz and his clash would have been possible only in the final.
At the same time, 14-time champion Rafael Nadal will not play here for the first time since making his debut at Roland Garros in 2005. The defending singles champion is called at the time of the draw so Iga Swiatek was present but Nadal was not. In the women’s draw, Swiatek could face last year’s runner-up Coco Gou in the quarter-finals. Swiatek will play Spain’s 67th-ranked Cristina Buxa in the first round.
