G Marimuthu Died: Director G Marimuthu, who won the hearts of the audience with his strong acting on the small and big screens, died suddenly of a heart attack while dubbing for his hit TV series ‘Ethir Neechal’. The Tamil actor-director was recently seen in Rajinikanth’s blockbuster Jailer. His sudden departure came as a shock to the industry. He said goodbye to this world at the age of just 57. Film trade analyst and industry insider Ramesh Bala confirmed the news on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating that G Marimuthu was 57 years old. He was best known for his role in the Tamil television series Ethirneechal. He has also worked as an assistant director with filmmaker Mani Ratnam, among others.
G Marimuthu died of heart attack
According to media reports, Marimuthu along with his co-star Kamlesh was dubbing for a TV show in a studio in Chennai on Friday morning. The 58-year-old man suddenly collapsed in the studio and was immediately taken to a private hospital in Vadapalani, where he was declared dead. It is being told that his remains will be taken to his native place Theni, where his last rites will be performed. Marimuthu is survived by his wife and two children.

Condolences to his family.” A fan tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear about the untimely demise of versatile actor Marimuthu. His recent blockbuster was Jailer. He was a superstar on both big and small screens. A tremendous loss to our industry…his soul rests in peace.” May he rest in peace.”

Marimuthu worked as an assistant to lyricist Vairamuthu during his early years. Later he worked as an assistant to director Vasanth. He has directed the films Puliwal and Kannum Kannum. He then pursued acting and made his debut in Mysskin’s Yuddham Sei. Over the years, he played many notable roles in films such as Pariyarum Perumal, Vikram and Jailer. He recently became popular among family audiences with the Tamil serial ‘Ethirneechal’, where he played the role of Aadhimuthu Gunasekaran, a strong-headed patriarch.

Who was G Marimuthu?
Apart from directing films and acting in TV shows, G Marimuthu had worked in more than 50 films. In 1990, G Marimuthu left his hometown Pasumalaitheri in Theni and moved to Chennai with the dream of becoming a film director. Initially, he worked as a waiter in hotels, but soon he met lyricist Vairamuthu and eventually got the role of assistant director with Rajkiran in films like Aranmanai Kili (1993) and Ellame En Rasathan (1995). Marimuthu continued his career as an assistant director, collaborating with renowned filmmakers such as Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman and SJ Suryah. He also worked as a co-director in Silambarasan’s Manmadhan.
