The drop in Gadar 2’s revenue is highly unusual. According to industry tracker SecNilk, after earning Rs 2.5 crore on Day 25, Gadar 2 has collected Rs 2.6 crore on Day 26.
This takes the total net collection of the film in India to Rs 506 crore, which means it is only Rs 37 crore away from breaking the all-time record for a Hindi film made by Pathan earlier this year. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, ‘Pathan’ earned Rs 543 crore in its entire run, becoming the biggest Hindi-language hit in history.
Shah Rukh’s another release, Jawan this week and in the long run, might come in the way of Gadar 2’s success. Depending on how good or bad the film is, Jawan is projected to become one of the biggest hits in history. Certainly, it is expected to deliver all-time number opening on Thursday, which will have a huge impact on Gadar 2’s chances of overtaking ‘Pathan’.
The film also marks a grand return to form of 80’s and 90’s star Sunny Deol, who had not delivered a hit film for decades. Besides this, Gadar 2 and Pathan have re-energized the Hindi box office after two full years of uncertainty. In fact they are just a few of the films in a string of successful releases this year, which also includes Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Satyaprem Ki Katha, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and The Kerala Story.
