Buta Singh fell in love with Zainab and later they got married. Both of them also had a daughter. Since Zainab was Muslim, she was deported to the newly created Pakistan. Whereas Buta Singh was not allowed to go. But Buta Singh entered Pakistan illegally. He tried hard to contact Zainab. But Zainab broke the marriage with Buta Singh under the pressure of the family.
Buta Singh, broken by Zainab’s refusal, commits suicide
Zainab was forced to marry her cousin. On the other hand, Buta Singh was captured. Buta Singh was accused of illegally crossing the border. When Buta Singh was presented in the court, he told crying that Zainab is his wife and he also has a daughter. It is said that Zainab refused and under pressure also refused to go with Buta Singh and daughter. Buta Singh broke down badly. Frustrated with this, he tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train with his daughter in 1957. In this the daughter was saved but Buta Singh died.

Buta Singh’s last wish was that after his death, his body should be buried in Barki village, where Zainab’s parents had settled after the partition. When Buta Singh’s body was taken to that village, the villagers refused to bury it there. Buta Singh’s body was then buried in Miani Sahib cemetery.
A slight change in ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’
‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ was based on this story. Although a small part was changed in the film. At the end of the film, Tara Singh i.e. Sunny Deol manages to bring his Sakina and son back to India. This film was directed by Anil Sharma and ‘Gadar 2’ is also being directed by him. ‘Gadar: The Katha Continues’ will release on August 11.
