The protesters claimed that the film undermines the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and glorifies his assassin Nathuram Godse. Written and directed by Santoshi, the film depicts the duality of two opposing ideologies between Gandhi and Godse.
During the media event, the protesters seated among media persons waved black flags and raised slogans of ‘Mahatma Gandhi Zindabad’. He alleged that through the film, Santoshi was trying to glorify Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated Gandhi on January 30, 1948. According to a press release issued by the makers, the police were called in to avoid an untoward situation. Santoshi said that her film does not glorify Godse.
