‘Ghoomar’ opened my eyes in ways I never thought possible: Saiyami Kher

MumbaiActress Saiyami Kher will be seen playing the role of a para-athlete, cricketer in R. Balki’s ‘Ghoomar’ which is a sports drama. The actress said that it is not at all an easy role for her, though she has grown up playing cricket, but in this film she has to portray a disabled character.
Saiyami said, “I am playing the role of a left arm bowler in ‘Ghoomar’ and I am a right arm bowler in real life. I could never really step into the role of a real-life para-athlete, but even the little hurdles I had to go through being an athlete reminded me of the things we take for granted. Let’s take it.
The actress, who has featured in “Mirzya”, “Unposed”, “Special Ops” and “Breathe: Into the Shadows”, further revealed how she prepared herself physically and mentally to play the character on screen. He said that playing this role challenged him not only physically but also mentally. The film’s plot is inspired by the story of the late Hungarian right-handed shooter Károly Tkacs, who won two Olympic gold medals with his left hand after his other hand was severely injured.
He said that the preparation and filming of ‘Ghoomar’ opened my eyes in a way that I never thought would happen. It was a physically and emotionally challenging time, but my struggle was minor compared to the heroes who make our country proud by participating in so many sports as para-athletes.
‘Ghoomar’ stars Abhishek Bachchan, Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi in lead roles. Abhishek plays Saiyami’s coach and Angad Bedi plays her lover in the film. The film is currently in the post-production phase, co-written by Balki along with Rahul Sengupta and Rishi Virmani.
