The first edition of ‘Goa Environment Film Festival’ (GEFF) will open from June 3 with the Oscar-winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whispers’. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, state Environment Minister Nilesh Kabral said that over 50 films would be screened during the three-day event at McQueen’s Palace in the capital city. He said that the GFF has been organized on the sidelines of the G20 meetings being held in Goa, though from this year it would be an annual event.

Cabral said that films from Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Finland, Ireland, Oman, Portugal, Russia, Spain and other countries will be screened during the film festival. “The film festival will open with ‘The Elephant Whispers’ and end with the Spanish film ‘Alcaras’,” Cabral said. He said that various aspects of environmental protection can be learned by watching these films. “Therefore, I appeal to the student community and general public to watch these films by participating in the film festival,” he added.

Cabral said the response to the film’s entries has been great and will help people understand aspects of the environment. “Filmmakers from Goa will also be a part of the festival and local films will be screened,” said Cabral. He said that quality films would be screened during the film festival. The logo of the film festival was launched by Cabral.
