Filmmaker and former chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification Pahlaj Nihalani opened up about his equation with actor Govinda. In an interview, Pahlaj said that he stopped working with the actor due to differences with director David Dhawan, who had made some of the most successful films of the 90s with Govinda.
In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Pahlaj said that his equation with Govinda was further affected when the actor started ‘whining’ about a Bollywood conspiracy against him and Salman Khan and Shah Rukh just before the release of the film. Took names of people like Khan. The film Rangeela Raja, which was produced by Pahlaj. Pahlaj blamed Govinda’s comments for the failure of the film and claimed that distributors canceled shows due to the controversy created by the actor.
When asked why he did not work with Govinda for many years after doing ‘Aankhen’, he said in Hindi, ‘David Dhawan created a misunderstanding. He felt that he alone was responsible for my hit films and when I started working with Anil Kapoor, he felt cheated. So, he started gossiping about me to Govinda. He spread hatred about me. The actors would come and tell me what he was saying. We went our separate ways. Because of what David said, Govinda even left the film we were doing together. We had already started shooting, I had to finish it with different actors.
After some time, Pahlaj and Govinda planned to work again on a film titled Avatar, but Govinda had some problems with the title and left the film. Govinda also once bizarrely claimed that he was approached to star in James Cameron’s Avatar and it was he who suggested the title to him. Pahlaj and Govinda finally reunite in Rangeela Raja. He said, “It was a remake of Rajinikanth’s film and Govinda did a brilliant job in it. In my opinion, he did a better job than Rajinikanth and I was sure he would win some awards. But just before the release, he went to the press and started whining about being sidelined by the industry. He held Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan responsible. My shows were canceled at the last minute. And now look at him, sitting at home.
Govinda has often talked about the Bollywood conspiracy against him. But it seems like he has resolved his differences with Salman. They famously collaborated on the 2007 film Partner, and were recently seen dancing on the same stage.
