Ahmedabad: Chennai Super Kings won the IPL title for the fifth time by defeating Gujarat Titans in the final match played on Monday. With this, CSK equaled Mumbai Indians, the most successful team of the tournament. Two points played a vital role in the defeat of Gujarat Titans in the final match. Hardik Pandya’s team got so entangled in the affair that even after scoring a huge score, it had to face defeat.

The roles of the two in the final match took place before the start of the match. After rain on the first day, the match was played on the second day i.e. Reserve Day. There have been five matches between the teams of Gujarat and Chennai in the IPL so far. Gujarat had won on the first three occasions, but Chennai defeated them in the next two matches.

Batting first, Gujarat Titans posted a mammoth total of 214 runs, which seemed impossible for Chennai to achieve. When the target of 171 runs was achieved in 15 overs due to rain, the difficulties increased further. The Titans team had three such bowlers who occupied the first three places in the race for the Purple Cap. It was a difficult challenge before him to score around 12 runs in every over. Experts doing commentary on TV started saying that Titans bowlers have to curb runs in only two consecutive overs. After this, the batsmen themselves would lose their wickets by making mistakes, but this did not happen. During Chennai’s batting, there were only five overs in which less than 10 runs were scored. Whenever this happened, the batsmen made up for it in the next over. The Gujarat team kept expecting two consecutive good overs during Chennai’s batting.

After batting for 14 overs, Chennai needed 13 runs in the last over to win. Mohit Sharma had earlier bowled two overs and taken three wickets. In the first four balls of the last over, he did not give any chance to the batsmen to hit big shots. Felt that Mohit would lead his team to win the match, but then the score of two came in the way of Gujarat Titans. The last two balls were left and 10 runs were needed. Ravindra Jadeja turned the tide by hitting a six and a four.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s double trick also stunned the Gujarat Titans who were caught in the affair of two. Dhoni made the first move as soon as he won the toss. Everyone was assuming that the team winning the toss would choose to bat first, but Dhoni surprised Gujarat by choosing to bowl. Then after a good start during the batting, when both the openers were out in quick succession, it seemed that Dhoni himself would come out to bat. The reason for this was that Ajinkya Rahane had definitely batted aggressively at the beginning of the tournament, but later on his form started responding. He was not able to play big innings. Ambati Rayudu also could not play a single good innings this season. But Dhoni sent both these batsmen before himself and this bet was successful. Rahane and Rayudu batted at a strike rate of more than 200 and together hit 46 runs in 21 balls.
