Mumbai Filmmaker Hansal Mehta expressed grief over the demise of veteran Bollywood comedian Nayeem Syed, popularly known as ‘Junior Mehmood’, and said he was an integral part of his childhood.
Hansal shared a clip from the 1968 film ‘Brahmachari’ on X. The video shows Junior Mehmood performing on the track ‘Hum Kale Hai To Kya Hua’.
He wrote, “I will always remember Junior Mahmood for his cuteness and laughter. He was an integral part of my childhood. RIP Junior Mahmood.
Junior Mahmood died on Friday morning due to cancer.
Junior Mehmood, who started his film career as a child artiste in ‘Mohabbat Zindagi Hai’ (1966), worked in more than 250 films in several Indian languages, besides directing half a dozen Marathi films and singing a few songs. .
He worked in films like ‘Naunihaal’ (1967), ‘Brahmachari’ (1968), ‘Kati Patang’ and ‘Aan Milo Sajna’ (1970), ‘Caravan’, ‘Haathi Mere Sathi’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ and ‘Jr. ‘Mehmood in Hong Kong’ (all 1971), ‘Aap Ki Kasam’ and ‘Ameer Garib’ (1974), ‘Geet Gaata Chal’ (1975), ‘Shehzade’ (1989), ‘Aaj Ka Arjun’ (1990), ‘ Worked in films like ‘Judaai’ (1997), ‘Journey Bombay to Goa’ (2007), and many more.
Syed considered the great comedian Mahmood Ali as his guru, who gave him the title of ‘Junior Mahmood’.
