New Delhi | After 73 competitive matches, IPL 2023 came to an end with a last-over thriller between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans in the much-anticipated final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja kept himself under pressure and hit a six and a four off the last two balls of the match to take CSK to victory.
Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan lauded the Saurashtra all-rounder for guiding Chennai to victory. “Hats off to Sir Jadeja,” Irfan said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live. Slipping out of the grip, then India’s star all-rounder put all disappointment behind him. The son of Gujarat sealed the victory for the Chennai team off the last two balls.”
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif hailed the valuable contribution of senior CSK batsman Ambati Rayudu – who had announced his retirement from the tournament before the final. In their last match, Rayudu’s cameo of 19 off 8 balls proved to be the key for CSK in the end. Rayudu equaled Rohit Sharma’s record of being a part of six IPL winning teams.
“That impressive innings by Ambati Rayudu was a match-changing moment. His innings was very important in the context of the match. The six he hit off the backfoot was the shot of the tournament for me. It was similar to the iconic six that hit Pakistan in Melbourne last year. Virat Kohli struck in the T20 World Cup against India. Rayudu looked emotional but credit goes to him for ending his IPL career on such a high.”
Irfan Pathan also lauded the performance of Gujarat Titans pacer Mohit Sharma for making a lasting impression in IPL 2023. The competition was inspiring and they should be proud of it.
“The emotion Mohit Sharma is going through is unimaginable. But what impact has he made in this tournament? It was the performance of a lifetime from Mohit Sharma, and this season, he should be proud of what he has achieved Hope he continues to do well in the coming season as well.”
