New Delhi : When it comes to film production, India is one of the largest film producing countries in the world in terms of numbers and cinematographers play an important role in helping behind the scenes in the making of every film. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in the year 1969 to reward those who have made a significant contribution to filmmaking and VK Murthy, the great cinematographer of the film world, was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2008. This was the first time that a cinematographer was awarded this top honor of the film world.

People from earlier generations would be familiar with the name of VK Murthy. Cinematographer VK Murthy, who shot Guru Dutt’s classic black-and-white films Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Kaagaz Ke Phool and Sahab Biwi Aur Ghulam between 1957 and 1962, has been selected for the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2008. And he was given this award on 20 January 2010. A cinematographer had to wait a long time to get this highest honor of the film industry. 1981: Hostage crisis ends in Iran. Ayatollah Khomeini released 52 Americans held hostage for 15 months.
1988: Freedom Fighter India; Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan passed away.
2009: Barack Obama became the 44th President of America. He was the first African-American to hold this position.
2018: India won the title for the second consecutive time in the Cricket World Cup played among the blind.
