Mumbai: Actor Akshay Kumar said that the success of recently released films like ‘Pathan’, ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘Jawaan’ is good news for the film industry. He expressed hope that in future a blockbuster film will create a record of earning Rs 2 to 3 thousand crores.
The Covid-19 global pandemic had badly affected the Hindi film industry as theaters were closed. Even in the beginning of this year, the earnings of films at the box office were affected. But actor Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Pathan’ and ‘Jawaan’ as well as Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ played an important role in removing the disappointment spread on the big screen.
Akshay said in an interview to PTI here, “I hope that the Hindi film industry will give more hit films. I was very happy when Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Jawaan’ did such good business. Other films like ‘Gadar 2’, ‘OMG 2’ also did well. So this is very good for the film industry.” He said, “Achieving Rs 1000 crore is a good thing. I hope that we will make films earning two to three thousand crore rupees. After that we can also make Hollywood like films. They don’t have the kind of cinema, scripts and stories that we have.”
The actor-producer believes that the success of commercial films is very important to continue producing films like his recent release content-based ‘Mission Raniganj’. According to the makers, the film is inspired by the extraordinary bravery of Jaswant Singh Gill. Gill led India’s coal mine rescue operations.
According to Akshay, “The success of commercial films is very important because only then you can make other films but it depends on what kind of commercial films get success.” Akshay said, “’Mission Raniganj’ has been made in a limited budget and I want to call ‘Mission Raniganj’ a commercial film. It is not like ‘Jawaan’ or ‘Rowdy Rathore’. This is not that kind of film. It has its own special audience but I hope it will do well.
