With his film RRR winning Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song for MM Keeravani’s Naatu Naatu at the Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, he is once again in the news in India. Meanwhile, Rajamouli has come under the target of trollers on social media in India. RRR director SS Rajamouli’s comment about Hrithik Roshan a few years ago has resurfaced and he has been trolled.

In an old interview, Rajamouli had said that Hrithik is nothing in front of Prabhas. This was many years ago. At the time of Baahubali, the director and cast including Prabhas traveled across India to promote the film, but no one picked it up then. Now, that comment has once again made headlines thanks to RRR’s success at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards.

Rajamouli clarified on the red carpet of the New York Film Critics Circle Awards that he had chosen the wrong words. It was a long time ago, he said. I think some 15-16 years back. But yes, my choice of wording was not good, I must admit. It was a long time ago. The RRR director admitted that he made a mistake and clarified that he did not intend to belittle Hrithik Roshan and has the utmost respect for him.

Rajamouli said on stage during a press event for the film Badla, When Dhoom 2 released two years ago, I wondered why only Bollywood could make films of such quality. Don’t we have heroes like Hrithik Roshan? I just saw the songs, the poster and the trailer of Badla, and I can only say one thing. Hrithik Roshan is nothing in front of Prabhas. I would like to thank Meher Ramesh (director) for taking Telugu cinema to Hollywood level. The comment remained under wraps till the success of RRR. It surfaced back on Reddit and went viral, prompting the director to issue a clarification.

RRR was not selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2023, but it has won several international awards for the Oscars.

RRR has broken box office records by earning over Rs 1200 crore at the global box office. It won Best Original Song at the recent Golden Globes, beating the likes of Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
Industry insiders say that with its two wins at the Critics’ Choice Awards, RRR is assured of an Oscar.
