I could have worked with SRK earlier: Rajkumar Hirani

After the success of Pathan, Shah Rukh Khan is currently busy completing his two other films, Jawaan and Danki, which are slated to release this year. While Jawan is slated to release on June 2, Ducky will hit the screens on Christmas. Jawan is being directed by young director Atlee Kumar who has given many blockbuster movies down South. On the other hand, Danky is being directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the most successful director in cine history, who gave his last film Sanju opposite Ranbir Kapoor in 2018. Hirani is going to return to direction after a long gap of 5 years. Recently he said in one of his interviews that he regrets that he could not work with Shah Rukh Khan earlier.

Rajkumar Hirani had planned to make his directorial debut Munnabhai MBBS with Shah Rukh Khan, but Shah Rukh Khan could not accept the film due to his busy schedule and the film went to Sanjay Dutt. Both the films of Munnabhai wrote new history at the box office. Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju was a biopic of Sanjay Dutt, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. After Sanju, Shah Rukh Khan was offered two films by Hirani—the biopic of cricketer Lala Amarnath and Danki—out of which Shah Rukh Khan chose Danki.

In an interview to India Today, Rajkumar Hirani said- Shahrukh shoots videos of each scene at his home and sends them to me. He narrates each and every scene in about 15 ways. Before I go on set, I know what they are going to do. Sometimes I have kept two days for a shoot and he completes it in two hours. He has a very good command over the language and his personality is very attractive. He completely surprised me by coming to the shoot at 7 in the morning.

In his interview, Rajkumar Hirani told that, Shah Rukh Khan knows that I sleep early. That’s why Shahrukh’s manager Pooja also tells him not to wake me up till late. He calls me soon. He often teases me that by the time the shoot is over, he would have changed me. They tell me – who wakes up so early in the morning? Shahrukh keeps his team extremely happy. Everyone eats and parties together. The team is family to him. If only! I would have already worked with him.

Praising Shah Rukh, Rajkumar Hirani said – Danki is a high performance film. It has a lot of monologues and long scenes. But, Shah Rukh memorized the entire script and got it in his head very well. It was a wonderful experience working with him. Apart from Shahrukh, Taapsee Pannu and Boman Irani will be seen in lead roles in Danki.
