‘I was dead, I was born again… Shreyas Talpade recovered after heart attack, shared his experience

Actor Shreyas Talpade recently suffered a fatal heart attack, following which he underwent angioplasty. The actor has now come forward and talked about the horrific experience that has changed his outlook towards life. In an interview with Times of India, the 47-year-old actor said, “I had never been hospitalized before in my life, not even for a fracture, so I didn’t see this happening. Don’t take your health lightly. If there’s life, then there’s the world. This kind of experience changes your perspective on life.”

Talking about how one takes health for granted, he said, “I started doing theater at the age of 16, became a professional actor at the age of 20. For the last 28 years, I have been just focusing on my career. We take our families for granted. We think we have time. As a nation we are not high on preventive care. I have also seen my parents and their generation neglecting their health. We work hard for our survival but is it worth it? “What does it mean if you are not alive?”

Shreyas reveals about family history of heart diseases

During the chat, he also revealed that there is a history of heart problems in his family and how he is taking precautions. “For the last two and a half years, I have been working non-stop and traveling extensively for my films, Pushpa (who lends her voice for the lead character in Hindi) or shows. However, for the last few months I was feeling extremely tired. This was a bit unusual but since I was working continuously, I thought I was a little tired which is normal. I liked what I was doing so I kept going. Of course, I got myself tested. I underwent ECG, 2D Echo, Sonography and blood tests. My cholesterol was high and I was taking medicine for it. There is a history of heart diseases in my family, so I was taking precautions.

On suffering a heart attack and near-death experience, the ‘Om Shanti Om’ actor said, “Clinically, I was dead. It was a massive cardiac arrest. A wake-up call would be an understatement. This is my second chance at life! I can’t tell you how grateful I am to everyone who played a role in saving my life. Of course my superwoman wife, who did everything in her power to save me. That is the reason why we are talking today. It was overwhelming to receive this kind of love and care. These people gave me a second life and this is a debt I can never repay, Ahmed Khan and his wife, Akki Bhai, my friends and family have been coming to my house.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shreyas Talpade will next be seen in Kangana Ranaut’s directorial venture ‘Emergency’, in which he will play the role of former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
