Why has Pakistan got this concession?
The Pakistan cricket team will play its matches in the ICC ODI World Cup in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. Although Pakistan has also expressed its disappointment about some of these venues, but in the event of reaching the semi-finals, the ICC has given a special concession to Pakistan.
In fact, Pakistan has not declared Mumbai’s venue safe for the semi-final match. In such a situation, the PCB has made a special demand from the ICC that if it reaches the semi-finals, its venue should be Kolkata and its demand has been accepted.
World Cup will be played in round robin format
The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will be played in the round robin format. All the 10 teams participating in the tournament will play matches against each other. The last match of the league stage will be played between England and Pakistan at Eden Gardens on November 12.
The top four teams in the points table will advance to the semi-finals. The first semi-final match will be played on 15 November. The first semi-final match will be played between the first placed team and the fourth placed team while the second semi-final match will be played between the second and third placed teams on 16 November.
