Jitendra had left the flight on the behest of Shobha.
Jitendra (Jeetendra) revealed this story in the year 2021 in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. This incident happened in the year 1976 i.e. 47 years ago. Jitendra had to fly to Madras (now Chennai). It was also Karva Chauth that day. His flight got delayed. So he returned home so that Shobha could perform the ritual of seeing the moon and breaking her fast. After this Shobha refused to go back to the airport. So Jitendra called his make-up man and asked them to come back home as he would be leaving for Madras the next day.
Jitendra saw the ball of fire towards the airport
The same night around 10:30 or 11 pm, Jitendra looked out of his flat (a high-rise building in Pali Hill, Bandra) and saw a ball of fire towards the airport. After a few hours, his phone started ringing continuously. Then he came to know that the flight he was supposed to board had crashed. Shobha had requested that she should not go and it proved to be a boon for her. It was Indian Airlines Flight 171, which had a tragic accident. About 96 people had died in this incident.
Jitendra fell in love with 14 year old Shobha
Jitendra and Shobha’s first meeting took place when Shobha was 14 years old. She finished her schooling and college and started working as an air hostess in British Airways. When Jitendra was struggling to become an actor between 1960-66, he was in a relationship with Shobha. The two decided to get married in 1974 and became each other’s partners at Janki Kutir in the presence of only family members and friends. Hema Malini’s authorized biography is said to have claimed that she was almost about to marry Jitendra, but backed out at the last moment.
Jitendra’s entry in films was like this
Jitendra was born in Amritsar to Amarnath and Krishna Kapoor. His family used to do business of imitation jewelery and used to supply jewelery to the film industry. Jeetendra, who was a failure in the financial condition of the house and studies, decided to become an actor and sought work from filmmaker V. Shantaram. He gave work to Jitendra as a junior artist. One day on the set, his attention was drawn when he heard Jitendra speak Marathi very well. From here his luck changed. Jitendra believes that his parents gave birth to him, but Guru V. Shantaram made him Jitendra and he will always be grateful to him for that.
The first film was released 64 years ago
‘Navrang’, released in 1959, was Jitendra’s first film. He then appeared in the film ‘Farz’, which was a Hindi remake of the Telugu movie Gudachari 116. Jitendra got recognition from this film.
