Chennai. The grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been affected by rain. This has upset the plans of Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans who are vying for the trophy. The toss was delayed on Sunday due to heavy rain. The rain stopped around 8:55 pm and the players started warming up in anticipation of the start of the match.

But it started raining again. Again it was covered. When the match officials realized that play would not take place, they announced the postponement of the match to Monday’s reserve day.

Now the question is, what if it rains on Monday as well and if the final match is washed out in rain?

If it rains, it will wait until 9:35 p.m. After that the number of overs in the match will go on decreasing. The cut-off time for the five-over match is 12:06 PM (Tuesday).

If there is more rain, there will be a chance to get a result from the super over. To ensure preparedness for this scenario, the outfield and pitch should be prepared no later than 1:20 p.m.

What would happen if the game could not be played even on the reserve day?

If the entire match is washed out, then the team that secures the highest position in the league table will be declared the winner of the final.

This means that if the match is not played on the reserve day, defending champions Gujarat Titans will retain the IPL title by virtue of being on top of the league table.

The Meteorological Department has predicted a thunderstorm around 5 pm on Monday, which is expected to last for about an hour. But rain is not predicted during the match. In such a situation, an exciting contest can be expected.(IANS)
