Melbourne. Recognizing the best of India’s film and OTT content on a global platform, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) Awards were presented in Melbourne on Friday. And it was the Telugu film Sita Ramam that brought home the top award in the acting category with Rani Mukerji, Vijay Varma and Rajshri Deshpande also winning. Independent film Agra surprised by winning two major awards including Best Actor.
Held in all its grandeur at Melbourne’s iconic Hammer Hall, the award ceremony witnessed a gathering of artists, filmmakers and enthusiasts. While the Jury Awards recognized excellence in cinema and streaming over the past twelve months, the Honorary Awards recognized popular and pioneering aspects of the industry. It was here that Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathan’ won the People’s Choice Award.
Seetha Ramam, Jubilee and Agra bag top prizes at IFFM Awards 2023
Telugu film “Seeta Ramam”, Kanu Behl’s “Agra” and Vikramaditya Motwane’s web series “Jubilee” were on Friday honored with top awards at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) Awards 2023 here. The annual event IFFM felicitates the talents of films and OTT series.
Rani’s Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway
Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji won the best actor award for “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway” and actor Mohit Aggarwal for his lead role in “Agra”, while “Seetha Ramam” was declared the best film. “Agra” was given the award for Best Indie Film.
Prithvi Konanur received the best director award
Kannada filmmaker Prithvi Konanur won the Best Director award. Motwane’s “Jubilee” won the Best Series award in the OTT series category. The Best Actor (Male) award went to Vijay Verma for “Dahad” and the Best Actor (Female) award to Rajshree Deshpande for “Trial by Fire”.
“Seetha Ramam” actress Mrunal Thakur won the “Diversity in Cinema” award, while Bhumi Pednekar won the “Disruptor” award. Filmmaker Onir was given the “Rainbow Stories Award” for “Pine Cone”. At the same time, “To Kill a Tiger” won the Best Documentary Award. The 14th edition of IFFM will continue till August 20.
